Myself.

My name is Elena and I love nursing! I love nursing for the opportunity to improve my personal development. I have great ambitions and big plans for my future. Right now, I am in the last semester of Nursing school at Lone Star College Montgomery. I will graduate in May, 2024 and I am going to apply for the Residency program. I will begin working on my bachelor degree this spring and will complete it in two years. So, in 5 years, I will have my Bachelor degree and start working on my Master degree in Nursing. In 10 years, I am going to work as a nurse practitioner and do a lot of volunteer work.

What is Philosophy of Nursing for me?

The role of the nurse dates back to the 16th century when there were no hospitals as free-standing buildings, and the sick people were treated by a medicine man with herbs. And children were usually cared for by a loving mother at the same time. That image of a caring mother has passed through the centuries and up to our time and was legitimized by Florence Nightingale, who later founded the first school of nursing. However, I would like to highlight Hildegard Peplau, who contributed just as much to nursing. Her theory was based on the interpersonal relationship between the patient and the nurse, which led to better patient outcomes. She believed that trust, respect, and a therapeutic relationship between the nurse and patient led to better results in treating the patient's emotional and physical health. And now, in the definition of nursing, we see that in treating patients, it is essential that we cure not only their illness but also their psychological state. I can say that Hildegard Peplau's theory, advocacy for the patient, and collaboration are my guiding principles in nursing.
